Our next adventure was to Swanage in Dorset staying at Ulwell Cottage campsite.

Ulwell Cottage is a pleasant campsite and has good facilities with an on site shop (open in season) and an on site pub/restaurant.  There is also an indoor swimming pool. Although expensive in the mid and high seasons it was good value at £12 per night all in when we visited.

Just outside the campsite is a stile which takes you up on to the beautiful down land and the high ridge which runs west from the Old Harry rocks to Corfe Castle and beyond.

Keith and George walked along the ridge path to Corfe Castle (90 minutes) whilst the remaining group took the bus from outside the campsite to Swanage station  and then the steam train to Corfe Castle.  We made a rendezvous at one of the many cafés in Corfe and after lunch all took the steam train back to Swanage.

The following day Keith and George walked into Swanage town (25 minutes) the others took the bus. A lazy day wandering around the local shops. The weather was not so kind and it became wet and cold but we enjoyed a lunch in a café which overlooked Swanage Bay.

Next day it was time to leave Swanage and head back home and the sun was shining!  We travelled via the Sandbanks/Studland ferry (right) but whilst it was an enjoyable short ferry trip the route took much longer than travelling via Wareham that we had done on the way down.

An excellent short break which we may very well repeat another year.  Thanks to Keith, Fran, Bob and Caroline for your company which made it a special few days.

In the evening we sampled the on site bar/restaurant, The Village Inn, and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food that was served. Very good and we recommend a visit if you are stopping over on this site.

We were accompanied by Keith and Fran in their Rapido and Caroline and Bob in their Burstner.

No doubt secretly wishing the train would leave whilst George is still outside taking photos!
